The Federation of the Valencian Community, through the Municipal Public of , held a “Baptism of Golf” session this past week with a group of prisoners from the Alicante 2 Villena Penitentiary. The unique initiative took place in the facilities of the Public School of Elche, a green lung in the heart of the town, where the Federation wanted to show that this sport is full of multiple values, at the same time that it does not discriminate and that it is Within everyone’s reach.

The activity served as a vehicle for social reintegration for inmates who are already in their last phases before their inclusion in society. This appointment arose through an internal project of the Villena 2 Penitentiary Center.

As explained by those responsible for the Center, their objective is to encourage sports activity among inmates since the studies carried out show that sport not only contributes to people’s physical and mental health, but also has a host of virtues and benefits for those who practice it.

In this case, golf, they pointed out that, as a singular and individual sport, it favors the development and personal growth of oneself. It is a challenge of the individual with the individual himself, which requires discipline, concentration and self-confidence among other virtues.

The deputy director of Villena 2, Valeria Lara, as well as the sports technician and physical trainer Gloria Castell, found in those responsible for the Elche Golf School the perfect hosts for a day as fun as learning.

The day, which lasted nearly three hours, allowed them to approach both the short game and the long game with the stick and the ball, as well as play the occasional hole.
