The football field and the municipal sports pavilion of l’Ampolla will bear the name ‘Jordi Pitarque Ceprià’, in memory of the person who was a football player in the town who died at the age of 23 due to cardiac arrest when he was in the ranks of the CF Reus Sport. The decision to rename the football field and the pavilion was confirmed by the mayor of l’Ampolla, Francesc Arasa, at the presentation of the tenth edition of the Jordi Pitarque Ceprià Youth Football Tournament. “With the construction of the new pavilion, which is very integrated into the football field, we had thought of giving all the sports facilities a name and we have decided that they will be called Jordi Pitarque and we will make it effective on the day of the tournament final”, explained the mayor.
The Jordi Pitarque Ceprià Tournament will be held again after two years of unemployment due to the pandemic. This edition will be held in l’Ampolla in September and over two weekends: on Saturday the 10th the preliminary phase will be held with 24 registered teams from Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l’Ebre and Barcelona. Six will go on to the final phase that will be played on the 17th and 18th with the participation of teams from highly prestigious clubs on a national and international level such as FC Barcelona, Espanyol, Valencia CF or Villarreal, and this year they will participate for the first time Atletico Madrid.
The Jordi Pitarque Ceprià Association continues to work to keep alive the memory of the young player from l’Ampolla, carrying out a series of solidarity activities.
All proceeds from the Tournament will go to the research project on cardiovascular diseases and sudden death, which they have signed with the Doctor Ferran Foundation. In addition, in recent years they have financed the installation of defibrillators in different parts of L’Ampolla and also in other towns in Terres de l’Ebre.
