Robert Trent Jones, which in 1987 was included in the World Golf Hall of Fame, designed more than 500 golf courses in the United States and 35 other countries during its almost 86 years of life. Six of them in Spain, among others RC Valderrama (Cádiz), RCG Sotogrande (Cádiz) and El Bosque Golf Club. The latter was designed in 1975 in the El Bosque de Chiva Urbanization (Valencia) and 46 years later it will inaugurate the 9 holes of the third and last phase of the reform that has been carried out since February 2020.
The El Bosque Golf Club, which has invested in the reform 3.5 million euros, aims with the new features “to give a leap in quality in the maintenance of the route, at the same time as making it more sustainable and ecological”, as pointed out by its director Guillermo Goiria Claramunt. The reform has been carried out in three phases so that the activity of the Club did not decline, which during the last year has seen an increase in members of 25%, to the 600 it currently has.
The El Bosque Golf Club, with par 72 and a length of almost 6,500 meters from its new black marks, entrusted the reform project to the engineering engineering Acttua Golf Services and the construction has been carried out by Garden & Golf. They have been in charge of installing a new drainage network, replacing more than 25,000 meters of pipes in the entire irrigation system, installing 1,200 more efficient sprinklers than the previous ones, and improving the soil profile with more than 8,400 tons of silica sand.
The reform started in February 2020, coinciding with the most restrictive times of the pandemic. During the confinement, under strict security measures for the workers, it was possible to continue with the work based on the decrees related to agricultural production. It was then that all the bunkers began to be renovated, using the Better Billy Bunker method, and 4,800 meters of new road network were built. In total, more than 180,000 square meters per cutting have been planted and 92,000 square meters of sod were installed. The choice of grass varieties planted has been Bermuda Tifway-419 in rough-fairways and Tahoma 31 in tees. All these improvements seek to reduce water consumption and have an optimal firm surface for the development of the game.
