The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that the qualification process for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will be organized by the IOC itself. In this way, the IBA (former AIBA), will continue to not have control of Olympic boxing, after being removed from the organization of the 2020 Tokyo Games.

The IOC has not considered the reforms carried out by the IBA to date to be sufficient, and will soon decide on the continuity of boxing on the Olympic program ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games, to be held in Los Angeles.

“The decision focuses on athletes and the need to give certainty to the competitions and Olympic qualifications for Paris 2024, and comes after the continuing and very worrying problems of the IBA, such as its management and its refereeing system”the IOC noted.
