The NBA looks for tight finishes in the Finals

NBA fans are hungry for close game finals in the definition of the championship. The League and Conference Finals have hardly produced close matches. A game with a decisive final play, an extension, one more point of tachycardia is missing.

The Finals between Warriors and Celtics have exhausted 3 games that have been decided by 12, 19 and 16 points difference. But things weren’t much better in the conference finals.

Of the 15 games played between the Eastern Finals, the Western Finals and the NBA Finals, 5 were decided by more than 15 points and only 1 by less than 5, a Heat-Celtics that finished 96-100.

Not a single one of the 15 games had an agonizing ending, an ending on a potentially game-winning shot, a controversial referee’s decision, an overtime, a loss of the ball that cost the win, an offensive rebound that felt crucial.

But it’s just that the inability to get to crucial endgame games has been pervasive since the conference semifinals.

Of the 41 games played in the conference semi-finals, conference finals and Finals… 16 games ended with a 15 or more point lead for the winning team and 9 of them with a lead of 25 or more points! A large number of beatings in the last instances of the definition of the season.

In return… Only 6 of those 41 matches were decided with leads of 5 points or less! Very few, only 14.6% of the games played.

With these disturbing figures, it is not surprising that we are all waiting for one of those games that take our breath away, one of those that, in addition to being good -how good they are-, take our hearts to the limit.

Will today’s game, fourth game of the Finals, be the one that finally brings together all the emotional ingredients from start to finish?
