El Encín Golf, in Alcalá de Henares, will host a new edition from September 3 to 4, and there are already 15, of the Madrid Open of adapted golf. A classic already, which is among the international tournament elite and brings together more than 80 players from all over the world, including many of the best, with disabilities ranging from spinal cord injuries to blindness.

The presentation was held this Thursday at the headquarters of the Madrid Golf Federation, which sponsors the tournament together with Daikin, at the Puerta de Hierro Sports Park. “Adapted golf is normal golf but with players with disabilities, who play exactly the same as anyone else. This right now is the most important tournament in Spain and top-3 in Europe. We always have high-level players. Juan Postigo (number one in the national ranking) has not been able to come for personal reasons, but he is the defender of the title and has promised us that he will be in the next one”, assured Pablo Cabanillas, president of the FGM Adapted Golf Committee. For the first time, this year there will be a streaming broadcast of the last nine holes.

“Last January I broke my back in a skiing accident. I have a complete irreversible spinal cord injury, I can’t explain how I feel so good seven months later. I have left the hospital and I have found myself with a sports option, I can only thank the Madrid Federation for making room for me. With one hand, a bit of engineering, magic and luck you can play golf”, Fernando Vega de Seoane, one of the players who will compete in El Encín, confessed in an entire story of self-improvement through sport.

“It is a very important event in the world of golf at an international level. We did not want to stop participating in this initiative to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities. We love working for the well-being, comfort and health of people. Adapted golf includes values ​​such as effort, integrity and camaraderie, we feel very comfortable in this world”, concluded Marisol Fernández, Daikin’s marketing manager in Spain.
