This is how the starting grid was left after the penalties. Finn Valtteri Bottas will start the Formula 1 Russian Grand Prix in 17th position this Sunday, penalized by a change of strategic engine, destined to help his teammate Lewis Hamilton. Bottas inherited a new engine in the previous race and was already penalized. This change is therefore a “tactical opportunity”, explains the team. In this way, he will start 17th on the grid and not 7th, his qualifying position on Saturday, closer to the leader of the World Championship, the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), twentieth and last, having been penalized for an engine change. Bottas will thus be able to slow down the Dutchman in his forward progression in the race and thus help Briton Hamilton, fourth on the grid and five points behind Verstappen in the drivers’ standings. The Italian Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) was penalized with five places for a gearbox change, which pushed him back to 16th position.
