The Sprint qualifying format was one of the innovations for Formula 1 in 2021. On those weekends, qualifying changed its traditional structure with a free practice on Friday, in addition to qualifying for the Sprint, which is a race held on Saturday after a second practice that covers 30% of the entire race for define the grid depending on the place of arrival, as well as the delivery of additional points, keys in the fight for the constructors ‘and drivers’ championships.
During the first season, three weekends had this format: Silverstone with the British Grand Prix, Monza with the Italian Grand Prix and at Interlagos with the Brazilian Grand Prix. The best driver in this classification was Valtteri Bottas who took two races on the peninsula and in Sao Paulo, while Max Verstappen was the first winner of the format.
By 2021, the total bet on this format will be doubled with six Sprint races during 2022, highlighting the return of the traditional classification in the Great Britain Grand Prix at Silverstone and incorporating expected returns, in addition to having it from the first test of the year.
When will Sprints be run in Formula 1 in 2022?
1.- Bahrain Grand Prix – March 18-20, 2022 – The race that will start in 2021 will be under this format, where Max Verstappen will seek to take the lead in the format before the exchange of Valtteri Bottas to Alfa Romeo and compete side by side with Lewis Hamilton in his first test after the controversial Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi.
2.- Emilia Romagna Grand Prix – April 22-24, 2022 – After tests in Saudi Arabia, as well as Australia, one of the main houses at the start of the season, Italy will receive a Sprint classification on its other circuit during the fourth round of 2022.
3.- Canadian Grand Prix – June 17-19, 2022 – In one of the most anticipated comebacks for the 2022 Formula 1 season, Montreal will host the third Sprint race of the year at the start of the second third of the campaign after the circuit’s premiere in Miami, as well as traditional events such as Catalonia, Monaco and Azerbaijan.
4.- Austrian Grand Prix – July 8-10, 2022 – Just two races later, with Silverstone between Montreal and Austria, Checo Pérez and Max Verstappen will look to bring joy to the bulls in their home race, where the Dutchman will seek his second consecutive victory over the Red Bull Ring.

6.- Brazilian Grand Prix – November 11-13, 2022 – How in 2021, in the penultimate race of the year, Brazil will host the last Sprint in a race that will most likely have direct implications for the drivers and constructors championship. This test was dominated by the Mercedes with the triumph of Bottas on Saturday and Hamilton on Sunday.
