The winner of the Usyk vs. Joshua will have to face official challenger Robert Helenius

The World Boxing Association (WBA) has ruled that current mandatory title challenger Finn Robert Helenius face the winner of the upcoming rematch

The World Association (WBA) has ruled that current mandatory title challenger Finn Robert Helenius face the winner of the upcoming rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua.

Helenius became a mandatory challenger after beating Poland’s Adam Kownacki in 2020. On the same evening as Joshua vs. Usyk had a rematch between the Finn and the Pole, with Helenius winning again.

“Robert fought a WBA elimination fight in March 2020 against Adam Kownacki, and he put a stamp on that victory in the rematch on October 9.”

“Usyk really should be Robert’s next fight. There are no more challengers worth it in the WBA. Charr, Bryan, Dubois, do they deserve it more? I do not think so”.

This WBA decision causes a headache for Anthony Joshua should Usyk win in the rematch. The problem is that Joshua plans to fight Tyson Fury and if he does now, he could be stripped of the WBA title for not defending it with Helenius.
