On Tuesday at 21:00 CEST, FC Bayern Women will kick off the group stage of the Women’s Champions League with their visit to Benfica. Julian Nagelsmann has visited his namesake in the women’s team, Jens Scheuer, and his team before the trip and wishes the Munich women every success in their start in the continental top competition.
The three questions to Nagelsmann
Mr Nagelsmann, you recently visited FC Bayern Women’s training. Did you previously have contact with women’s football?
“In Hoffenheim and also in Leipzig I went a few times to training and to the women’s team matches. Leipzig coach Katja Greulich was also with me in the coaching course and we always talked. I just think it’s important that there are conversations between the girls. people from all over the club and create a connection. I think that, in general, women’s football does not get a lot of attention and suffers because of it. I think it is very important and correct when people from men’s football show up and come to see them. My visit was not so thought for the media, but I simply wanted to meet the team and the coaching staff. ”
What feelings has Bayern Women given you at the moment?
“That they have a lot of success, similar to that of the men’s team. I think that Bayern, in recent years, has become one of the best teams, and that also in the case of the women’s team. Now, Bayern also play a important role in Europe. A couple of years ago I also saw a Bayern Women’s Champions League match at Grünwalder Stadion against Paris Saint-Germain. ”
What do you wish the team for this group stage of the Champions League?
“It is always important to get off to a good start in the group stage. In the League you have many more opportunities to correct a bad game. That is not the case in the Champions League. So I wish Jens Scheuer and his team a a similar beginning to the one we had in Barcelona. ”
