The Iridium agency reported on Friday that the American Adam Fugitt will be the new rival of the Ecuadorian Michael Morales in the UFC 277 function, to be held on Saturday, July 30 in Dallas.
Morales had agreed to a welterweight fight against the Albanian-American Ramiz Brahimaj since May, but he was presumably left out due to injury.
The announcement was made by Morales via Twitter on July 14, pointing out a possible injury to Brahimaj. It didn’t take more than a week to find a new opponent for the fighter born in the province of El Oro, according to a message on Instagram from Andy Caballero, the person in charge of his physical preparation at Entram Gym in the city of Tijuana.
The following day the announcement was made official by the Iridium Sports Agency, through a post on Instagram. The chosen one is Fugitt, who will have his debut in the UFC cage at the age of 33.
The North American welterweight became known on the regional circuit for being crowned champion of X-1 World Events, Pure Combat and Prime Fighting. The Oregon native is riding a four-fight win streak. In his last fight, he knocked out Solomon Renfro in the co-feature of LFA 125.
For his part, Morales (23 years old) made his debut in the UFC octagon with a one-round TKO victory over Trevin Giles during the main card of the UFC 270 event, last February in Anaheim, California.
The passenger is undefeated with a record as a professional in mixed martial arts (MMA) of 13-0. Eleven of his wins have come by way of finishing.
The UFC 277 card will take place on Saturday, July 30 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. (D)
