The UFC returns to San Diego for the first time since 2015 with a pivotal battle between two top bantamweight contenders that brings together fifth-ranked Marlon Chito Vera and former champion and eighth-ranked Dominick Cruz.
Rising star Vera (19-7-1) intends to deliver her best performance yet in her second consecutive UFC main event. An all-around martial artist, Vera holds the record for the most finishes in UFC bantamweight history, including in his wins over former champion Frankie Edgar, Sean O’Malley and Brad Pickett. He now plans to get closer to a shot at the UFC title for the first time by defeating Cruz.
Former UFC and WEC bantamweight champion Cruz (24-3) is aiming to impress his hometown crowd. Possessing one of the most unique fighting styles in MMA, Cruz has established himself among the best to ever compete at 135 pounds with victories over former champions TJ Dillashaw and Demetrious Johnson. He is now looking to stop Vera’s momentum and return to the Top 5 of the division.
David Onama against Nate Landwehr in the co-main event, as well as Yazmín Jauregui and Iasmin Lucindo in the minimum weight, promise to leave the octagon warm so that Vera and Cruz can do their thing.
