And one of the images left by the first test of the day was when a Canadian marmot crossed the track, just as Carlos Sainz’s single-seaters were speeding (Ferrari) and Fernando Alonso (Alpine), who came within inches of crushing the rodent with the giant 18-inch tires.

This sequence recalled what was experienced in 2015 on this same racetrack, when another groundhog also invaded the tracknarrowly avoiding several cars, including the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton.
