The NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors will start tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET, and it is important to know which of the two teams will have the advantage of playing more games at home if the series extends to seven commitments.
In the first three rounds of the playoffs, the top-seeded team is the one that gets the most home games in a seven-game series. However, in the NBA Finals the situation is different as the league awards the team with the best record.
In this case, the Warriors will host four of the seven games after finishing with a 53-29 record because the Celtics only managed 51 wins and 31 losses during the regular season. The Chase Center will be the designated location for Games 1, 2, 5 and 7, while the TD Garden will host Games 3, 4 and 6.
In the NBA Finals, having the home court advantage is a decisive factor, since, not counting the Orlando bubble where it was played at a neutral venue, the local team has won the Larry O’Brien trophy in 53 of the 74 finals played to this day.
