United States.- In 1920 the United States American Football League which, today, we know as the National Football League (). In that year the competition was recognized as the American Professional Football Associationrival tournament of the previously called American Football League.

In 1970 both Leagues decided to officially form one and from that moment the National Conference and American Conference they began their journey until they formed 16 franchises each, and thus began the season with the 32 teams that shape American Football.

In the distant 1970 the National Conference (NFC) had 13 teams which played in the National Football League (NFL) before reaching an agreement with the American Football League. Since the merger three expansion teams have joined the National to complete the 16 teams so far.

When the Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers they joined the NFL in 1976, were inducted into the National and American for one year, respectively, before changing conferences. Seattle returned to the NFC as a result of the 2002 realignment, while Carolina Panthers they reached the National in 1995.

It is worth mentioning that the 16 franchises that make up the National Conference are divided by zones: North, South, East and West with four teams each, which play against the others in their division, twice, as home and away, during the regular period.

At the end of the qualifying phase, the finals are held or as in the NFL it is known as ‘Playoffs’ with the top 6 teams in the NFC and AFC; the four division champions and two others in wild cards depending on the best win-loss record with the rest of the teams in their conference.
