Bogotá.- Colombia will be represented at the Qatar 2022 World Cup for Children (SCWC) with the women’s team from the municipality of Condoto, in Chocó, thanks to the Goleadoras program, from Project Peace Latin America.
In the tournament, which is sponsored by the Qatar Foundation and will be held as a prelude to the 2022 World Cup, 28 national teams will participate, half of them girls. They will represent their countries on the field —and also off it—, raising their voices to raise awareness about issues such as the stigmatization suffered by children in street situations, in vulnerable communities, and the displaced and refugees.
Eglantina Zingg, founder and president of the Goleadoras Foundation, highlighted “the use of soccer as a catalyst and tool to change the lives of thousands of girls and women around the world.”
“That is why it is so important to be part of the SCWC Qatar 2022 tournament with a team from Chocó, a region where we encourage girls to improve their physical and emotional well-being, learning the principles of assertiveness without violence, teamwork and developing their self-esteem, creativity, discipline and leadership”, affirmed the social entrepreneur and professional in the fashion and entertainment industry.
The Goleadoras Foundation is supported by prominent personalities such as Ricky Martin, Princess Martha Louise of Norway and Carolina Herrera Jr., among other ambassadors. Carmen Busquets, Mireya Cisneros and Julie Larson-Green are part of the organization.
The SCWC Qatar 2022 seeks to bring together young people from around the world in a soccer tournament, created to promote social change.
Eglantina Zingg will speak about these projects next week in New York, as part of the activities of the United Nations General Assembly, in a discussion of Ibero-American leaders and at the Concordia 2022 Annual Summit.
Eglantina Zingg’s international experience ranges from her program on MTV Latin America, through Project Runway Latin America, or catwalks in Milan, Paris, London and Madrid. She has also been a global ambassador for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and La Perla.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, raised in the Amazon and currently living in Miami and New York, Eglantina’s multicultural roots have inspired her to fight for social, economic and political changes, especially those aimed at gender equality. and equal opportunities for girls and women around the world.
