Although there have been few approaches, the interest of some to join the international scene is growing, so the is preparing a space to welcome them.

After the women’s boxing panel that took place during the 60th Convention of the World Boxing Council, the issue came up when the president of the organization – Mauricio Sulaiman – asked the boxers what they thought of the subject.

“When it was discussed in the panel, the opinions were strong. It is what the WBC has had as a first. There can be no boxing between men and women regardless of the current state of their sexuality. There are many physiological issues involved there and it was decided. They started a definitive study to create a league, but the universe of athletes interested in competing will depend on that,” explained Sulaiman Saldivar.

Mauricio assured that along with that league they are beginning to work on procedures, rules and manuals to be able to provide security to athletes.

“I envision that this start will be events rather than championships, where you have classifieds and contenders, which is counted in the rankings. But I do see it – for now – as isolated events that have the protection, all the medical measures and the support also in all the senses of the inclusion that is being done”, she abounded.

Already in the past there were some representatives of the LGBTQ+ community, such as the testimony of the American writer and boxer Thomas Page McBee, who was the first transgender fighter to fight in Madison Square Garden and his story was told in the book “A Real Man”.
