The Cuban boxing team secured five bronze medals today at the 2021 Belgrade World Championship, with the same number of victories and a setback in the quarterfinal day.
The Olympic monarchs Julio César la Cruz (92 kilograms) and Andy Cruz (63.5) and the debutants Osvel Caballero (57), Yoenlis Feliciano Hernández (75) and Erich Ruiz (86) conquered the successes of the Antillean squad, which only suffered Kevin Brown’s backhand (67).
La Cruz defeated the Serbian Magomedov Sadam, Caballero the Mexican Miguel Vega, Hernández the Croatian Gabriejel Veocic, Ruiz the Turkish Burak Askin, in all four cases 5-0, and Cruz 3-2 the Uzbek Nujibillo Turzunov, while with a similar decision he lost Brown against the Georgian Lasha Guruli.
The team trained by Rolando Acebal reached 21 wins in 24 starts and has already left behind the number of medals achieved in the previous version of Yekaterinburg 2019, in which they harvested one of each color.
The quintet of Cuban boxers will seek the day after tomorrow, Thursday, to advance to the final on Saturday the 6th.
