Zaragoza Women’s Football Club, an example of good work

ANDhe women’s football is reaching a spectacular level in Spain. Our team is playing in the European Championship and there are more and more elite clubs that are committed to having women’s teams. For their part, they have begun to receive professional training, with physical preparation, food care and dietary supplements, such as HSN, and even technical and tactical training.

Within this work, which has spread to all the teams on the national scene, the work of the Zaragoza Women’s Football Club stands out in our community.

Brief history of Zaragoza Women’s Football Club

The Zaragoza team was founded in 1997. It is heir to Inter Aragón Winter Garden and begins in the regional category with the name of Club Deportivo Transportes Alcaine. But, in the 2004/2005 season, he was promoted to the Super League after defeating Rayco Canario with a goal by Silvia Meseguer. David Magaña trained the team.

That year, the Alcaine family, who were already involved in it, took control of the club and made Magaña sports director. Legendary soccer player Verónica Boquete also joins the team and the club is experiencing rapid progress. Already in 2007 Zaragoza was in eighth position in the league and reached the semifinals of the Copa de la Reina.

The following season was even better, with a fifth league position and the Cup final, which they lost against Español de Barcelona. After several years of success, in 2016 women’s football is undergoing a profound transformation. Iberdrola begins to sponsor the league and the Association of Women’s Soccer Clubs is created. It is the first step towards the long-awaited professionalization.

However, in 2018, after many seasons in the elite, Zaragoza was relegated to the second division. Since then, he has not returned to the top flight. But he keeps trying and, above all, doing a commendable job as a youth team that is already bearing fruit.

Women’s Zaragoza today

Currently, although the team plays in the second division, it has developed a structure of lower teams that promises to give very good results. And, above all, that allows many girls and adolescents to practice their favorite sport.

Starting with the youngest, it has an initial school, a junior team and another junior team that play in the Aragonese categories. But it also has children’s and youth outfits. It even has a subsidiary that is in the first national category, something not very common among women’s football teams, which do not have as much financial means as men’s.

And all this despite the fact that it does not have adequate facilities either, since it has to play in the Nuevo Enrique Porta field and train on land provided by other Aragonese teams.

In conclusion, the Zaragoza Women’s Football Club is doing a commendable job as a youth team. It works as an elite team in terms of training and physical and nutritional care of its players. Therefore, all the support we can give them will be deserved.
