The French Johann Zarco (Ducati Desmosedici GP21) was the fastest in the global count of the three free practice sessions of the Emilia Romagna MotoGP Grand Prix, in which the world leader, the Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha YZR M 1) was left out of the second classification for the first time in the season and forced to contest the first classification.

Zarco once again demonstrated his qualities in adverse conditions and surpassed by 87 thousandths of a second the Spanish Jorge Martín (Ducati Desmosedici GP21) in a full Ducati in the first positions, as the Australian Jack Miller finished in third position.
